Adding the Scout Society Event Calendar

Calendar Setup

The Scout Society Event Calendar can be added to your personal Scout Society Calendar so scout events appear beside your own schedule. A subscribed calendar stays separate from your personal calendar: viewing it does not move events into your calendar and does not give you permission to edit a read-only calendar.

Best practice:

Subscribe while signed into the Scout Society Workspace account you normally use. Once the calendar is attached to that account, it can appear on your phone, tablet, and computer anywhere that account is signed in.

Add the calendar from a browser

Google currently requires new calendar subscriptions to be added from a computer web browser rather than from the Google Calendar mobile app.

  1. Sign in to Google Calendar with your Scout Society account.
  2. Open the current Scout Society Event Calendar from the Scout Society website.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and select the “View Full Calendar Option”
  4. Once the full calendar has loaded, select the Add to Google Calendar option and confirm the subscription.
  5. If you were given a published calendar address, use Other calendars > Add other calendars > From URL and paste the address. If it was shared directly within the organization, use Subscribe to calendar instead.
  6. Confirm that Scout Society Event Calendar appears under Other calendars and is checked so its events are visible.

Show the calendar on a phone or tablet

  1. Open the Google Calendar app and make sure your Scout Society account is signed in.
  2. Open the Calendar menu and make sure Scout Society Event Calendar is checked.
  3. If it does not appear, allow time to sync, reopen the app, and check the account and Calendar sync settings.

Check the setup

  • If event times look wrong, check the Google Calendar time zone.
  • Choose a recognizable calendar color and useful notifications.
  • If events are missing, confirm the active account, calendar visibility, and Calendar sync.
  • Open event details before leaving for an activity; times, locations, or instructions may change.
  • If the public calendar itself does not show an expected event, check the Scout Society website or contact a leader.
